WEBINAR: Conversations That Count: Substance Use & Social Gatherings

This webinar with Drug Free Kids Canada will delve into common substance use issues that teens may encounter at social gatherings and offers invaluable tips and resources for fostering meaningful, informed family conversations.

Participants will explore topics such as:

  • Strategies for parents and caregivers to discuss substance use non-judgmentally.
  • Effective language to use and avoid, conversation starters, and ways to respond to youth concerns.
  • Responsibilities of hosts/adults in situations where youth may be using substances.
  • Laws and rules surrounding substance possession.
  • Risks of substance-impaired driving.
  • Effects of mixing substances (e.g., alcohol, cannabis, opioids, stimulants, medications).
  • Recognizing signs of overdose and understanding the risks of substance use.
  • Responding to emergencies related to substance use, including information on NARCAN/Naloxone and the Good Samaritan Overdose Act.
